And The Thunder Came

I felt that rumbling from your touch,

each caress clamored

with a throbbing tremble

and the thunder came

in the dark silence of night,

an intense raging roar

utterly shuddering to bone.

It sounded like a storm,

one that would change

all that had been our shelter,

which would drown our hearts

to last as lake to swim forever.

Only the booms faded

in the morning light

when we both accepted

explosions might truly rupture the quiet,

but they will never last

if afterwards

all you can feel is the memory of that noise,

while lips speak two different languages.
